Family Formation

As primary educators of their children, parents often feel unqualified to teach their children about their faith. Family formation addresses these concerns, leading parents to develop their own faith journey, build community with other parents, and gain the confidence to talk to their children about the Catholic faith. Designed for parents and children in grades 1-6, Family Formation participants meet twice a month at Immaculate Conception School, Parish, and Fr. Klink Hall. While children meet with a classroom catechist, parents meet with Fr. Michael or Fr. Francis  and learn about an important aspect of our Catholic faith. Parents then learn how to pass on that knowledge: what to share, how to share it, and why they are catechising their children. Parents “teach” a simple lesson on the other two Wednesdays of the month. Lessons are simple, down to earth, and fun! Yes, really! Please note that childcare will be available during meetings at IC at no charge AND those children must be registered so adequate staffing is available.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)

An alternative religious education option for preschool - 3rd grade children is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), a materials based method developed from the Montessori method.  The foundation of CGS is the belief there is a deep bond between God and the child which produces in the child the desire to draw nearer to God. The catechist’s role is to prepare the environment and to give selected presentations from scripture and liturgy that “call forth” the child’s response. The catechist listens with the child and together they ask, “God, who are you? How do you love us?” The adult reflects with the child on the questions generated by the presentations with the materials offered to the child to aid the child’s reflection. The atrium (or prepared environment) is one of the important elements that help the relationship between God and the child to flourish. After a theme has been presented, the child is free to choose an activity that will make possible the inner dialogue with God, the “Interior Teacher.”  CGS Atriums meet weekly beginning the week of September 27, 2026.  To learn more about CGS, visit CGS USA

Middle School/EDGE

Designed for students in grades 7 and 8, who meet twice a month at Immaculate Conception School with the Family Formation schedule. Parents with only 7 or 8 grade students do NOT meet.  7th grade students will study Theology of the Body, while 8th grade students will study the Bible.   On the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, these students will meet at Sacred Heart church for the EDGE program.

Confirmation

The immediate preparation for Confirmation involves a two year program beginning in the ninth grade. Those preparing for the sacrament are required to attend the scheduled preparation sessions and complete the assignments and service hours required for each year. All sessions take place at Immaculate Conception School unless otherwise noted, following the schedule of Family Formation and Middle School.
